AI does not require a technology background. If you can write an email and use Google, you can use AI productively. Here is a clear starting path.
Week 1 — Try it with zero pressure:
Go to claude.ai or chat.openai.com and create a free account. Do not worry about learning everything. Just start a conversation. Ask it to help you draft an email you need to write today. See what comes out. Edit it. Send it.
Week 2 — Find your first real use case:
Identify the task you hate doing or avoid because it takes too long. Bring that task to AI. Writing a proposal? Social media caption? Response to a difficult customer email? Let AI take a first pass.
Week 3 — Learn to prompt better:
When the output is not quite right, do not give up. Tell AI what to change: “Make this shorter,” “Make it more professional,” “This sounds too salesy.” Each refinement teaches you how to prompt better.
Week 4 — Build a habit:
Pick one recurring task to always do with AI. Just one. After a month, add a second.
Common first successes:
- Writing client update emails
- Creating a social post
- Researching a topic before a meeting
- Drafting a job description
- Writing your Google Business profile
What not to worry about yet:
Automation, integrations, APIs, custom workflows — these come later. Start simple. Prove it valuable. Expand from there.
